The Chamber is dedicated to effectively promoting business needs to government at the local, state and federal level. These Advocacy Councils focus on local, state and federal legislation and its impact on the business community.
2011 Business and Quality of Life Agenda
The Chamber’s Business and Quality of Life Agenda (BQLA) is a listing of legislative priorities identified by the Advocacy Councils. This is a living document that offers guidance to Chamber staff and input from Chamber members.
Public Policy
The Public Policy Council considers legislation that affect the business community and recommends positions to the Chamber’s Board. The Public Policy Council is composed of advisory and sub-committee councils on environment, taxation and transportation issues.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Committed to improving diversity among membership and volunteer leadership, the Diversity and Inclusiveness Council promotes a diversified workforce as one of Kalamazoo’s greatest strengths in talent management, recruitment and retention.
Environmental
Focuses on environmental legislation and its impact on the business community. The EAC manages the Chamber’s Green Choice Program promoting a listing of member companies whose actions, policies, accreditation, and certifications have shown leadership in sustainable and ‘Green’ business practices and products.
Taxation Task Force
Dedicated to directing and supporting the Chamber’s efforts to analyze and recommend positions to the Governing Council on local, state and federal tax issues.
Transportation
Develops an evolving list of road improvement priorities and helps coordinate the business community’s involvement in seeking federal and state monies for projects. It also examines other transportation issues involving non-motorized trailways, rail, and air transportation.
